Property crimes down in April in Windsor

Property crimes fell by 20 per cent in April as compared to the previous year, according to Windsor police officials.
Windsor Police Service released its latest crime statistics noting the 797 property crimes in April were a 20.1 per cent decline.
However, crimes against people were up 7.3 per cent – to 264 – from a year ago.
Other criminal code violations also rose by 8.1 per cent. There were 133 violations that could include child pornography, administration of justice violations, non-violent weapons offences or gaming and betting offences.
In the year-to-date crime overview, property crimes fell 16.3 per cent, compared to January to April 2024. There were 3,209 reported property crimes so far this year.
Crimes against people were up 4.4 per cent, while other criminal code violations decreased 5.5 per cent, compared to the first four months last year.
Police also broke the statistics down by ward, with Ward 1 recording the highest number of property crimes, Ward 7 had the lowest.
Ward 3 also had the highest number of crimes against people, while Ward 6 recorded the lowest.
